Madonna and Demi Moore try to be relevant by hosting Oscar party

The party is coming back to Los Angeles. After the dreadful shenanigans of last year’s awards shows, mostly due to the writer’s strike and the public’s collective “meh” over the year’s films, Hollywood is going to actually throw some parties for this year’s Oscars. Last year, even the Vanity Fair party was cancelled and it’s always the must-have invite for big stars. Elton John cancelled his annual party/AIDS fundraiser, too, and people had to make do with a party at famous manager Guy Oseary’s house, hosted by Madonna and Demi Moore.

Even though the parties are back on this year, Madonna and Demi are trying to have another go at a star-studded gala. Maybe they think if people come to their parties, they’ll still be relevant? It’s interesting to note that neither Madonna nor Demi have ever been nominated for an Oscar. Perhaps it’s enough to just have their names mentioned in the same breath as “Oscar (party)”. Madonna and Demi Moore are to repeat their 2008 post-Oscars party at entertainment mogul Guy Oseary’s Los Angeles mansion.

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Cameron Diaz and Sir Elton John were among the guests at the bash a year ago.

This year, Elton will compete with his two superstar pals for celebrity guests – his 17th annual Oscar benefit for his AIDS foundation will feature a performance by Grammy nominee Raphael Saadiq, according to Eonline.com.

The other notable party on Oscar night will be the Vanity Fair bash, which was cancelled last year (08) because of the writers’ strike.

The Vanity Fair party will take place at the Sunset Tower hotel, and will be smaller, cheaper and more intimate than in years past.

If you were a big star, would you go to a party hosted by Madonna and Demi Moore? Wouldn’t you lose your appetite just looking at Madonna’s chicken-cutlet cheek implants? Would you be able to drink a martini if you were staring at Demi’s immovable face?

There’s going to be some good gossip surrounding this year’s Oscars, I can just feel it. The race is tightening in most of the acting catagories – will it be Sean Penn or Mickey Rourke? Kate Winslet or Meryl Streep? Viola Davis or Penelope Cruz? Will Jennifer Aniston present an award to steal Brangelina’s thunder? Who will accept Heath Ledger’s Oscar? It just seems rude that Demi Moore and Madonna are trying to steal the thunder away from the real winners and nominees, trying to get a little bit of the drama.
