The success of his new release follows that of his last EP, which peaked at No. 2 on the US Viral Chart. The talented singer/songwriter also has over 5 million Spotify streams and 114K+ monthly listeners.

Here we speak exclusively to Stephen Day to discuss his new single, musical inspirations, future plans and much more;

Growing up who inspired your love of music?

My mom, for sure. I grew up going to church every time the doors were open because my dad is a pastor, so I was always around music and musicians. However, it was mainly my mom that inspired my love for music itself. She was always walking around with a song in her head and she has the most amazing voice. One day, I found her old guitar in her closet and made her teach me a few chords. From there, I hit the ground running writing my own songs and singing them to myself in my room.

 Who are your musical icons?

Well…I hesitate to say it, just because everyone and their mother loves him, but my all time favorite artist is John Mayer. I bought Room for Squares on my iTouch in middle school and listened to it every day on the bus ride home. I also fell in love with artists like Stevie Wonder, and Frank Sinatra because my Mom loved them

When did you decide to pursue music as a career?

I told my parents in high school that I wanted to be an artist, but I think that was just because I didn’t really know what else I could do. It wasn’t until I started playing shows in Nashville that I realized how much I actually loved playing my own tunes for people and thought about turning it into a living.

How would you describe your own sound to new listeners?

Some people call it “New Retro” and I can get on board with that. I’m really influenced by soul but I also really love pop, so those influences come together to make something in the middle.

Can you talk us through the inspiration behind your latest single?

“Dancing in the Street” is really an apology. I wanted the relationship I was in to work out more for the other person than I did myself, and after a while that caught up to me.

Can we expect an album from you soon?

I will be spending this summer writing and recording as much as I can. I hope to release as much music as possible in the coming year.

Do you have any touring plans lined up?

I’ll be playing shows all throughout the summer and fall. I announce all of those things on my social media so you can follow me on those to make sure and stay up to date!

What are your long term career plans?

Honestly, I’m along for the ride. Whatever the ride looks like. I pray that I can make records as long as people are into them, and eventually shake John Mayer’s hand and say, “Thank you… for everything”.
